Long maligned by the Roman Catholic Church, Mary Magdalene has been a symbol for the forgotten, downtrodden, and misunderstood. But since the church admitted to getting her reputation as a prostitute wrong, researchers have been trying to find the "real" Mary. An apostle to the apostles, yes, and perhaps a teacher in her own right, to me she symbolizes love, devotion, and grace.
